Drum Kit

druhm kit
The drum kit, also known as a drum set, is a collection of various percussion instruments arranged in a compact setup. It typically includes drums such as snare, bass drum, toms, and cymbals. The drum kit is widely used in many genres of music and provides rhythm and texture to musical compositions.
History of the Drum Kit
The drum kit’s history, as the sum of its parts, begins less than 100 years ago although its individual percussion instruments make up a history spanning thousands of years. Drummers and percussionists began to assemble their instruments into a set during the 1860s when military bands were looking for a way to make multiple sounds while marching. An early technique known as double drumming developed in which the players could hit both the bass drum and snare with sticks while using a pedal for their cymbals. This idea led to the pre-cursor of the hi-hat, the “low boy”, however foot pedal designs would not be mass produced until well into the 20th century. The invention of the bass pedal during the early 20th century warranted another step forward for the drum kit, with drummers able to play a bass drum while seated. This, combined with the double drumming technique, led to brand new African and Caribbean rhythms becoming possible on one kit. The 1920s saw a rapid rise in jazz and New Orleans dixieland jazz bands which brought in the first recognisable drum kit. This brand new ensemble of tom drums, bass drum, a snare drum and cymbals became very quickly popular and helped towards the innovation of jazz, swing and big band music during the 1930s and 40s. What followed was the dawn of rock ‘n’ roll and hundreds of styles of popular music.
